Clock Club!

May 9, 2009 by Administrator

Five year 6s have been working on Friday lunchtimes  designing and making clocks.  Here is the first completed one – an impressive rainbow clock by Alicia.

Clock1

Clocks still under construction include: a castle clock, 3d football clock, abstract clock and swirly string clock.  Pictures of these will appear on the blog when they finish.  If you could design a clock, what would it be like?  What theme would you choose: animals, sports,…?  What shape would it be?  What materials would you use? Perhaps you could have a go a designing one…

Book Swap Shop

April 29, 2009 by Administrator

The book swapshop has been really successful, but only for a fairly small number of people. I am wondering whether we should give it a break, and start again in the autumn, when more people are indoors reading! I am happy to continue through the summer if you would like me to though. Let me know what you think.

Science simulations

March 14, 2009 by Administrator

Here are a couple of sites with some great science simulations.  Have a go and let us know how you get on…

(On the second one, there is a game called Plant Force where you have to grow plants by giving them water and heat – I have neve managed to make a profit!  Let me know if you can…)

Merlin

March 14, 2009 by Administrator

This post is mostly for Year 6s.  When I gave out your Merlin login details, your slips did not have all the information you needed…

  1. The login page is  https://secure.merlin.swgfl.org.uk
  2. Your username needs to end with:     .8653176
  3. The first time you try to login, it may say that your password needs to be changed.  Just type in your password 3 times where it says Old Password, New Password, Confirm New Password (Don’t try to change it at this stage).

If you are not in Year 6 and you are wondering what I’m writing about…   Merlin is our Virtual Learning Environment, a website where we will be able to :  create and share information and ideas, collaborate on projects, learn anywhaere, anytime, work on webpages, blogs, wikis and personal ePortfolios…  Year 6 are having a go with it first and then it will be rolled out to everyone else later.

Book Swap Shop

March 5, 2009 by Administrator

Thanks for your comments, which have been very helpful. Maybe we should go for permanent swaps to start with, except where people know and trust the people they are lending to. It would also be a good opportunity for people to browse, and talk about what they have read. I intend having cards for readers to make comments on books they have read. It would be nice to have a comfy corner somewhere. I’ll have to think about that!

Girls’ Football Result

March 5, 2009 by Administrator

The girls played and won their 4th league match on 3rd March, 7-1 against St. Andrew’s. No matches have been lost in the league so far, with two more games to play. A terrific result, girls, in unbelievably horrible weather – howling gale and icy driving rain. We were all wet through to the skin – but we were all smiling!

Book swap shop

February 25, 2009 by Administrator

Mrs. Bale is thinking about setting up a lunchtime ‘book swap shop’, one day a week.  Children can bring in up to 3 books at a time, either to lend for 3 weeks or to give as a permanent swap.  This could be an opportunity for you to share books that you have particularly enjoyed, and have a chance to try books that you might not want to buy.

What do you think? Do you like the idea? Please let Mrs. Bale know, via the blog or in person.

Charitable thought…

February 19, 2009 by Administrator

If you could make up your own charity, what would it be for and what would you do with the money you got?  Maybe think about: Facilities, equipment and more.
